The creative for 2023 used our new venue, the Royal Festival Hall in the lively Southbank as inspiration for the key art across Film, Games and TV.
Southbank is a young, creative and communal space, which is accessible for all, so I wanted the design to draw on such themes as connectivity, inclusion and diversity. I had visions of colourful, striking and modern shapes overlapping and intertwining. I wanted to combine the striking lines, sharp angles and interesting brutalist shapes of the venue with elements and influences from each of the screen industries being celebrated, namely film, games and television...and so 'Concrete Creative' was born.
Using inspirational photographs, I incorporated the iconic yellow Southbank steps into film reels, the Queen Elizabeth Hall into a games console and the frame for Festival Pier into television and mobile screens. Each artwork represented the myriad of creative roles and crafts within film, games and television, all tied together by a giant flowing red carpet that swept through each artwork. I was also inspired by predicted trending colours for 2023, so the artworks would feel contemporary and eye-catching, while avoiding colour clashes with any official awards partner logos.
Below is a selection of design work demonstrating how I used the key art for event production items such as: table plans, window vinyl, bar menus, TV and presentation holding slides, scrims and totems, accreditation passes, drinks tokens, table cards and more. My illustration work was also adapted for staging designs and sent to external contractors to base our party theming, broadcast graphics and interior design from.
I reworked the key art from the individual awards for each ticket and wallet design, making them more difficult to replicate for security purposes. In collaboration with the Print Editor, we selected special printing treatments, tested and sampled, fluorescent inks, foils and premium papers due to our good relationship with our printer.
